St. Bonaventure University is a decision you can afford to make

Selecting the right school is important. Over a lifetime, the benefits of a quality college education will far exceed its costs.

But we realize that cost is an important factor, so we offer aid based on need and academic performance, and we encourage all students to apply for financial aid.

Kristie"The Financial Aid staff turned my dream of attending SBU into an affordable reality. I couldn't be more grateful for all the aid and help I received through the years. The staff is very easy to work with."

Kristie Schiefer, '14

  • Our OUTCOMES show the value of a St. Bonaventure education.
  •
  • SBU has often been ranked among the TOP 10 IN THE NORTH on U.S. News & World Report's list of "Great Schools at a Great Price."

  • 95 PERCENT of St. Bonaventure students receive some type of financial assistance.

  • Students who earn a bachelor's degree are likely to DO SO SOONER at private colleges than at state institutions.*

  • The AVERAGE AID PACKAGE for this year's freshman class, including scholarships, grants, work/study jobs and loans, was $25,378.

  • SBU offers merit awards UP TO $18,000 for freshmen (based only on high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores) and $14,000 for transfer students (based on college GPA).

  • More than 90 PERCENT of alumni say they'd attend SBU all over again.

Here's what you need to do

Our goal at St. Bonaventure is to make a private Catholic university education available to as many students as possible.

To be considered for need- or academic-based financial assistance, a student must first apply for admission.

We encourage each student to apply for need-based aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the Feb. 15 priority deadline. There is no University-specific form or supplement to complete.  Read more about why it is important to file the FAFSA.

When you'll hear about aid

Applicants receive academic scholarship notification with their offer of admission to the University. Complete financial aid awards, including need-based aid, are mailed beginning in March for the earliest FAFSA filers.
