Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purpose of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology.
Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the science of psychology one of their major interests and who meet the minimum requirements. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) as well as the American Psychological Society (APS).
The St. Bonaventure chapter of Psi Chi has been nationally chartered since 1967.
Psi Chi serves two major goals:
Membership provides solid reference and networking opportunities, resume building and an introduction into the professional world of psychology.
The national Psi Chi office also provides its members opportunities for research grants and awards, yearly conventions and conferences, as well as graduate school scholarships and grants.
Psi Chi membership is lifelong and the national registration fee of $45 is the only payment ever made to the national office.
Members participate in activities in and around the community. Our main purpose is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology.
Past events have included guest lectures by expert psychologists, designing and conducting our own research projects, tours of psychiatric wards, and presentation of original research at national conferences. Psi Chi also holds seminars for upperclassmen interested in pursuing graduate studies.
Our members also do volunteer work in and around the Olean-Allegany area.
