More than 80 percent of our students participate in intramurals, club sports or fitness programs each year, so it's no surprise that the Sandra A. and William L. Richter Center, our state-of-the-art fitness center located in the heart of campus, records some 6,000 student visits each month.
The center is the headquarters for club sports and intramurals, and everyone's first stop for fitness and wellness. The center features:
- three basketball courts, including a multi-purpose court that can be used for floor hockey, soccer and other activities
- an indoor running/walking track
- an aerobics room
- courts for racquetball, squash and walleyball
- 5,000 square feet of cardiovascular and weight equipment
- locker rooms
- a climbing wall
In addition, the center offers structured programs to help students stay fit by making exercise fun. There are live instructor classes offered in pilates and ab lab.
New to the Richter Center is Fitness On Demand! This exciting system allows students to use a kiosk to view approximately 130 different workout videos specializing in strength, cardio, cycling, flexibility, and core exercises. Once a video is selected, a 10-foot wide screen descends from the ceiling in the multipurpose fitness room, and the class begins on the big screen.
The Richter is open to all members of the university community and is limited to recreational and intramural activities. Our Division I athletics programs train in their own facilities in the Reilly Center, located right next door.
