The Center for Community Engagement

Connecting the Classroom with the Community

Students help harvest crops at Canticle Farm near campus.  Embrace it Africa is helping a village in Uganda
SBU's Center for Community Engagement leads a variety of integrative educational, service and volunteer activities to promote a culture of Franciscan service to others.

Students have the opportunity to volunteer or intern* at several local non-profit service organizations and get involved in community-based projects and research.

The center encompasses campus service programs including the Warming House, Bona Buddies, the First-Year Service Program and Clare College Local Action Projects. It also partners with the Franciscan Center for Social Concern and the Father Mychal Judge Center to offer regional, national and international service trips.

There are additional campus service clubs and organizations for students to become a part of, such as Bona Responds and Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), whose good works also have national and even global impact.
