Requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Elementary & Early Childhood Education
The elementary education/early childhood education undergraduate degree is registered in New York and accredited by NCATE, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
The following table summarizes all requirements for a Bachelor of Science in elementary/early childhood education. For an overview of a particular course, click on its title. † The Clare College curriculum also includes a three-credit quantitative reasoning requirement.
Childhood studies majors satisfy this requirement by passing any of the mathematics courses listed in the above table under Certification Requirements
Choose one concentration from among English, Math/Science/Technology (MST), and Social Studies. Within the concentration, take 30 credits of courses, as indicated below. Note that the courses include several of the requirements listed in the table above.

This sequence illustrates how requirements can be met in a four-year program. Changes in the sequence of the plan of study below may be desirable, but these must be made in consultation with the student's academic adviser. 1.) Field Block courses must be taken together in the same semester. 2.) Field Blocks 1 and 2 must be completed prior to student teaching. 3.) No additional courses may be taken during student teaching semester.
