A comprehensive introduction to the study of behavior that is organized around Niko Tinbergen’s “four questions” that are asked about behavior: What is the immediate causation, the development, the current evolutionary function, and the evolutionary history of the particular behavior in question. Topics include: behaviorgenetics, evolution, predation, predator avoidance, play, communication, cooperation, altruism, kin-selection, monogamy, polyandry, polygyny, territoriality, individual differences (nonhuman animal “personalities”).
