ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure Parish donated more than $1,600 to St. Bonaventure University’s Warming House through the 2013 “Meat the Need” campaign.
Fr. James Vacco, O.F.M., pastor of the Allegany parish, said the campaign was created in 2009 to support the purchase of meat products for Olean’s Warming House.
“In 2009, when I served as administrator at St. John’s Parish in Olean, I became aware that the Warming House was in need of meat products,” said Fr. James. “Since it was the Lenten season, we decided to meet this need through a special fundraising effort. I am pleased that the St. Bonaventure Parish community has embraced this effort for the past two years.”
Fr. Francis Di Spigno, O.F.M., executive director of university ministries, said this annual campaign is an important source of support for the Warming House.
“We rely so greatly on the generosity of our community to sustain the Warming House, and we are very grateful to St. Bonaventure Parish for supporting this specific need,” he said.
The Warming House, located at 164 N. Union St., is the nation’s longest-standing student-operated soup kitchen. For information about volunteering or donations, contact Maggie Morris, program director, at (716) 375-7813.
