CLAR 207. The Catholic-Franciscan Heritage

This course provides a critical reflection on central elements of the Catholic faith tradition, focusing on their expression within the Franciscan movement.  Students will study the life and teaching of Jesus and its roots in Jewish thought.  They will also study the historical and cultural contexts that have shaped the development of Catholic heritage and will gain an appreciation for the life and message of Francis and Clare of Assisi.  In a particular way, the significance of the Catholic and Franciscan traditions for contemporary issues will be addressed.
