Each spring, St. Bonaventure University hosts a science fair for high school students in the Twin Tiers Region. Projects in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, and other sciences are welcome. The organizer of the science fair is Dr. Jim Pientka, Assistant Professor of Physics. The date of the 2019 Science Fair is Thursday, March 28.
Intel ISEF: One project advances to Intel ISEF for a week in Pittsburgh with 1700 students from 75+ countries competing for over $4 million in awards and scholarships
Genius Olympiad: Two projects advance for a week in Oswego with 1200 students from 75+ countries and adventures such as a field trip
to Niagara Falls and an evening’s International Celebration
Ying Scholars: One Semifinalist receives $500 scholarship; teacher receives $100. Students compete for Ying Scholars Finals for scholarships and sponsor awards.
NYS Science Congress: Six students advance to the New York State Science Congress in Buffalo
Terra School/Teacher Awards: $2,500 (up to 2 schools/teachers)
Twin Tiers Regional Science Fair Local Awards: Winning projects receive Amazon Gift Cards: $250 for first place; $150 for second place; and $100 for third place. In addition, there's a door prize!
The judges for the science fair include representatives from local manufacturers and professors and students from the science and mathematics departments at St. Bonaventure University.
Registration for the Twin Tiers Science Fair is FREE thanks to the generous support by the Ying Tri Regional Science and Engineering Fair, National Grid, and the Terra Foundation. The Science Fair is organized with the kind assistance of Dream It. Do It. Western New York.
