SBU Mock Trial Team advances to opening round of national tournament

Feb 05, 2018 |

This past weekend, the SBU Mock Trial Team competed at the American Mock Trial Association’s State College Regional Tournament, hosted by Penn State University.

The SBU team was one of only seven teams to qualify to advance to the next stage of AMTA national tournament competition. Twenty-six teams competed at the regional event.

The next stop for the team is the Opening Round of the Championship Series in Lancaster, Pa., March 23-25.

In addition to the team’s success, three SBU mockers received individual awards in recognition of their outstanding performance at the regional tournament. Receiving all-regional attorney awards were Keegan Miller and Devin Geiger. Keegan is a senior philosophy major and the team’s captain. Devin is a junior philosophy major. Only 16 of 156 attorneys competing at the tournament received this award.

Trevor North, a sophomore political science major, received an all-regional witness award. Only 13 of 156 witnesses received this distinction. Congratulations to all three for outstanding performances. Way to mock!
