President Sr. Margaret Carney among 2015 Women of Distinction to be honored by Girl Scouts of Western New York

St. Bonaventure University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., is among nine distinguished women who will be honored by Girl Scouts of Western New York as 2015 Women of Distinction.

The honorees were nominated by members of the community because of their demonstrated leadership in their careers and communities through public service. These women are considered role models for all girls, and in accepting this award, they commit to mentoring the young women involved with the Women of Distinction event.

In addition to President Carney, the 2015 Women of Distinction are:

"It is with great honor that we recognize the accomplishments of this remarkable group of Western New York women, and we thank them for inspiring the next generation by mentoring our Girl Scouts,” said Judy Cranston, interim chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of Western New York.

President Carney is the 20th president of St. Bonaventure University, a position she has held since 2004. Her honors include the Lifetime Achievement Award from Business First of Buffalo for Women of Influence and the Citation Award from the National Federation of Just Communities of Buffalo.

The honorees will be recognized at a dinner and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens in Depew.
