Graduates told that St. Bonaventure will shape their futures
More than 40 years removed from his Commencement in the Reilly Center, Dr. Charles Dougherty, president of Duquesne University, told more than 700 graduating students Sunday morning that the university will shape them in ways they might not yet be foresee.

Aggarwal, Marin Salcedo named Ideal Bonaventure Students
Two students whose academic and cultural endeavors have taken them from the classroom at St. Bonaventure around the globe were named the 2012 Ideal Bonaventure Students. Abhimanyu Aggarwal and Manuela Marin Salcedo were recognized as Ideal Bonaventure Students on Saturday, May 12, at the university’s Honors Ceremony and again Sunday, May 13, during St. Bonaventure’s 152st Commencement Exercises.

Faculty members honored with Professional Excellence awards
Dr. James W. Mahar Jr., associate professor of finance and founder of BonaResponds, the university’s volunteer disaster-relief organization, was honored as recipient of the 2012 Professional Excellence in University Service award, while C. Kevin Brayer, executive director of St. Bonaventure’s Buffalo Center, was cited for earning the 2012 Adjunct Faculty Award for Professional Excellence in Teaching.

Three receive honorary degrees during Commencement Exercises
Three individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation’s Catholic health system received honorary degrees Sunday at St. Bonaventure University’s 152nd Commencement Exercises. Charles J. Dougherty, Ph.D., president of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., Sr. Mary Jean Ryan, F.S.M., chair of the board of SSM Health Care in St. Louis, Mo., and Pittsburgh attorney John R. McGinley Jr., outgoing chair of St. Bonaventure’s Board of Trustees, received honorary doctorates of humane letters.

Two graduating Army ROTC cadets commissioned as second lieutenants
Two graduating seniors who were part of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program while attending St. Bonaventure were commissioned as second lieutenants in a ceremony on campus Saturday: John Bradshaw of Randolph, N.Y., and Elisha Darby of Tampa, Fla.
