VA 101. Art and Its Appreciation

This introductory course is designed to give the student a working understanding of the meaning of art and its influence and application in our lives. Thorough attention will be given to the problems of artistic expression, content and form in two- and three-dimensional works of art. By examining the role of the artist we study arts implications, influences, visual language and interpretation by contemporary society. Periodically, original works of art from the St. Bonaventure University art collection will be used to develop the student’s critical awareness of individual discernment when engaged with the visual arts and images.
