Showing strong support throughout the past academic year, St. Bonaventure University alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends raised nearly $10 million for the university, including a record-breaking $2.5 million for The Bonaventure Fund.
“Solid engagement from the St. Bonaventure community made the difference,” said Bob Van Wicklin, vice president for Advancement. “Our alumni are clearly committed to the future of the university — and they demonstrate it daily through their investment in our students.”
Nearly 6,000 donors contributed gifts between June 1, 2015, and May 31, 2016.
The $2.5 million for The Bonaventure Fund breaks the previous record by $125,000, set in 2008.
“This significant success has already translated into additional financial aid and scholarship support,” said Van Wicklin, noting that the university will welcome this fall around 450 freshmen, the largest incoming class in the past four years.
Besides bolstering student aid, gifts to the fund enhance the academic environment and augment student services, Van Wicklin said. He credits the Reunion Class Chair volunteers for generating excitement among their classmates and increasing participation for The Bonaventure Fund. Reunion classes from 1941 to 2011 raised $619,583.
“Today’s students achieve their academic dreams in part because of the thousands of supporters who demonstrate devotion one dollar and one act of loyalty at a time,” said University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., who will step down from her presidency on July 31. “It has been an honor to work for and with such exceptional donors this past year and throughout my tenure as the 20th president. Our students are fueled by your encouragement.”
