The Scholarship Luncheon is held on a Friday in April from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The reception begins at 11 a.m. in the Trustees Room in Doyle Hall, where the projects in the Academic Excellence Showcase are displayed. Lunch is served at noon in the Doyle Dining Room. The event is attended by junior and senior scholarship recipients, scholarship donors, the students who created the projects on display, and the faculty mentors of those students.
Academic Excellence Showcase
The Scholarship Luncheon features a showcase of the superb work of a select number of students from across the University. Students are invited to participate if they have received a scholarship or if a faculty member recommends their project. There are no restrictions on the types of projects displayed. Projects presented at the 2009 Luncheon ranged from a computer science project on test generation to the relief work of BonaResponds to a live performance by the Bonacoustic Group.
Student Speaker
The Luncheon features a speech by a scholarship recipient, in which the student describes the impact that the scholarship has had on his or her life. To be chosen to speak at the Luncheon, a student must first be nominated by their Dean. Then the candidates are interviewed by Kathleen Ryan. Ms. Ryan selects the speaker based on the interviews.
The Student Research & Creative Endeavors Exposition
The Student Research & Creative Endeavors Exposition is another annual celebration of exceptional mentored work by St. Bonaventure students. The SRCE Exposition is held during the week following the Scholarship Luncheon. While the Scholarship Luncheon showcases projects in any format by students in any of the four schools of SBU, the Expo features posters (or similar visual formats) summarizing superb work by students in the Arts & Sciences. A student may be invited to both events. For more information about the Expo, visit The SRCE Exposition online or contact its organizer, Dr. Chris Hill (chill@sbu.edu, 716-375-2025).
