We believe that nearly every violation committed on campus is preventable. As part of the University's education mission, the Department of Safety and Security attempts to educate members of the campus community on how to reduce their chances of suffering from violation of their property or themselves. (For this reason, a crisis intervention officer has access to meetings and workshops dedicated to the introduction and training of new crime prevention methods and projects.)
The crime prevention program is based upon the dual concepts of eliminating or minimizing criminal opportunities, whenever possible, and encouraging students and employees to be responsible for their own security and security of others.
