Dedicated to the memory of the late Bob Koop , a news anchor for Channel 4 News, the Koop Broadcasting Lab is a fully functioning television production studio located in the Russel J. Jandoli School of Journalism & Mass Communication.
All students (including freshmen) have the opportunity to gain experience in the lab through a variety of courses. Upperclassmen are offered the opportunity to take Broadcast Seminar, which produces a weekly newscast aired on SBU Channel 9. Other coursework includes Broadcast Reporting and Video Production.
The Koop Lab features a professional news set, along with an interview set and voice-over booth. Broadcasts are run through a seperate control room that looks out into the studio. New Digital cameras, along with several tripods and wireless microphone kits are used for electronic news-gathering. Students edit their work in four new digital editing stations located within the lab.
The lab is open every day of the week and is run by student assistants. Journalism students are encouraged to be creative and produce shows and news segments while attending St. Bonaventure.
