Students are prepared for the professional roles in a way that is reflective of Franciscan service to others - an ideal that is central to the mission of St. Bonaventure University.
What kinds of careers can a major in Childhood Studies lead to? Really, this major prepares you to work in any career that focuses on the needs of children. For example, the knowledge and skills you develop in planning, assessment and understanding of child development will prepare you for graduate school and for careers such as:
- Directing/working in a camp
- Directing/working in after-school programs
- Working in social services programs that focus on children and families
- Developing children’s programs at a YMCA or other community organization
- Working in a non-profit organization that focuses on children and youth
- Being a docent in a children’s museum
- Developing resources for children for a museum or park
- Working at a national park – developing programming for children and families
- Organizing tours and programs for children at a museum or other organizations
- Developing educational materials for a hospital
- Working at a children’s magazine
- Working for a textbook publisher
- Being a community organizer for children’s programs
- Working in a childcare setting
