UB Match Preview

 Bonnies Open With Rival Bulls

After splitting last season’s series – with the home team winning each match – the St. Bonaventure University Bonnies and University at Buffalo Bulls will only have one opportunity to determined the top team in Western New York for 2012. Friday night under the lights at Kunz Stadium on UB’s campus, SBU will open their Empire Rugby Conference campaign at 8:45 p.m. against the rival Bulls.

“It’s always a big match when SBU takes on UB, especially to open the season,” said head coach Clarence Picard. The two teams opened league play against each other in 2009 and 2010 as well. SBU won at UB in 2009, while UB exacted revenge at SBU in 2010.

The host Bulls are led by their backline, a dynamic unit with a lot of experience. Fly half Kevin McKenna and outside center Tyler Norris have played for numerous select sides, and will look to challenge a young St. Bonaventure backline.

For the Bonnies, their athletic forward pack will look to negate big plays on defense, while making some big plays of their own. Loose forwards Jon Garbin, Evan Meister and Greg Johnson will need to be active on both sides of the ball for SBU to beat Buffalo.
