Post-Grad Service Work

A number of St. Bonaventure University students choose to go on service or mission trips after commencement. Many join the Peace Corpsthe Franciscan Volunteer Ministry, or serve domestic needs through dozens of other opportunities.

Three 2010 alumnae are currently engaged in service work. Elizabeth D'Onofrio, Keelan O'Connel, and Molly Peterson have begun their volunteer aid this August. Discover more about their post graduate service work by visiting this page and by following Keelan's blog about her adventures in East Timoor below.

Keelan O'Connell is a 2010 graduate of St. Bonaventure University where she majored in Biology and minored in Spanish. She will be attending George Washington University Medical School beginning in the fall of 2011.

While attending St. Bonaventure, Keelan was a member of the SBU Cross Country team, BonaResponds, and Sigma Delta Phi Spanish National Honor Society. She was very involved in University Ministires and was also the founder and President of SPARK (Students of Prayer, Action, Reflection and Knowledge), a weekly Bible study and faith sharing group on campus. In addition, she served as a lector and eucharistic minister on campus and taught 4th grade religious education at St. Bonaventure Parish. She studied abroad at the University of Limerick, Ireland, in the fall of 2009.

Taking SBU's motto "the good journey" to heart, Keelan joined the Salesian VIDES (Volunteers In Development, Education and Solidarity) volunteer organization and has answered God's call to serve the poorest of the poor in Venilale, East Timor until May of 2011. While in Venilale, Keelan will be sharing God's love by teaching English to high school students, tutoring orphan girls aged 4-16, and working in a health clinic to provide free health care to members of the Venilale community and surrounding areas.
