Expert to compare crises of Fukushima, Japan, and Chernobyl
Nuclear engineer Alexander Sich, Ph.D., was the first Westerner permitted to live and work within the exclusion zone to investigate the Chernobyl accident in the former Soviet Union 25 years ago. Now an associate professor of physics at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio, Sich will visit St. Bonaventure University Oct. 19 to give a presentation on “The Nuclear Crisis of Fukushima, Japan, and the Comparisons to Chernobyl.” Read more

Physics majors earn prestigious NSF Opportunities
Two St. Bonaventure University physics majors have been selected to participate in a highly competitive summer research program sponsored by the National Science Foundation — one for the second straight year.
Troy Mulholland, who participated in a physics program last summer at the University of Florida, and Courtney Bosse were selected for the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program in which students conduct research at any of a number of host colleges or universities across the nation. Both will be seniors in the fall. Read more
