Class of 1971
Fortunately it is not just one passion. I truly enjoyed 35 years of teaching high school history at Nauset Regional in North Eastham, Mass.
For much of that time I also coached varsity athletics, and feel particularly blessed to have been in the vanguard of elevating women’s sports to a status equal to men’s. That involved some requests for Title IX enforcement when the “old guard” was slow to see the need for change.
My other passion involves sailing and it is the one that I still fully pursue. In 1983 I began a sail charter/sail lesson business here on Cape Cod: Cape Sail.
Today it finds me sailing a 35-foot Southern Cross named Sabbatical on the waters of Nantucket Sound. (The boat with which I began the business was named Bonaventure). I also have a smaller boat for beginning instruction. One of the opportunities available to me since leaving the classroom is to sail in winter and in 2009 I joined friends for a leisurely Caribbean passage from Puerto Rico to Antigua.
