Jennifer Bellucco receives her diploma from University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., at St. Bonaventure's December Recognition Ceremony.
My name is Jennifer Bellucco and I am a recent graduate of the School of Education at St. Bonaventure University. I graduated with my degree in elementary/special education with a certificate in early childhood education. I feel so well prepared to have a class of my own and I owe it to St. Bonaventure for my knowledge and confidence.
I have so many great things to say about the program and would strongly recommend anyone interested in becoming an educator to attend St. Bonaventure University. The SBU education program is designed to develop students into educators and any SBU student leaving the program will feel confident in his or her ability.
I have had so much experience in the classroom, which was very beneficial. I was in the classroom since my sophomore year. I have had time to observe different classes, tutor students, teach in the classroom two days a week (field experience 1 and 2) and then student-teach and take over a classroom completely!
I was able to work with many different grade levels and each classroom was a completely different experience. This allowed me to see which classroom and age level I enjoy the most. For me, this was awesome because I can honestly say I enjoyed every classroom I was a part of and built positive relationships with each of my cooperating teachers while I was working in their classroom.
It was awesome that we were in the classroom so early in the program because college is a time to figure out your passion, and being able to be in the classroom early allowed us to decide if education was the right program for us. I was able to apply what we were learning in the SBU classroom to the classroom I was working in, which allowed me to see what practices work best for me. Each professor had experience and knowledge to educate us on positive practices in the classroom.
I have learned to differentiate, modify and make the classroom a welcoming one for all students. I made great connections and relationships with my cooperating teachers, with whom I still stay in contact! The SBU education program had high expectations. We had several hours in the classroom, a required grade-point average for entry into student teaching and many classes that were preparing us for our future.
The most difficult part about leaving the education program was leaving my Bona family. I built positive relationships with the other students that were part of the education program and with the faculty and staff. I can’t express how thankful I am for the support they gave me along the way.
School did not always come easy to me and the professors had faith in my success in times that I did not. I wanted to strive to be the best I could be because I did not want to let my professors down. I became very close with my professors and anytime I needed anything, they were there. The faculty and staff truly cared about my success. The relationships I built, I know, will be relationships of a lifetime.
I am so sad to not be a part of the education program anymore because I miss everyone so much! The St. Bonaventure education program allowed me to understand our conceptual framework of competence, experience and social justice.
The SBU education program is a well-prepared program with high expectations. I feel I am so well prepared to now have a classroom of my own. I am thankful for the education program at SBU and it is a great choice for anyone.
As parents of a student in the School of Education at St. Bonaventure University, we have nothing but great things to say. Our daughter has wanted to be a teacher since she was 5 years old and St. Bonaventure made her dream come true!
When we first stepped foot on the St. Bonaventure campus we knew this was going to be the right school.
We were both very impressed with the amount of experience in the classroom our daughter had throughout her time in the education program. She was in the classroom for observation hours, tutoring, field block one and two and then student teaching. This gave her the experience she needed to be confident in the classroom.
We remember her being nervous the first time she was teaching a lesson and now she feels well prepared and confident in her abilities. She has gained so much knowledge in the SBU classroom as well as in her field placements and she can’t wait have a classroom of her own.
We have nothing but great things to stay about the professors in the education program as well. We were impressed that it was required for our daughter to have a 3.0 to enter student teaching. This raises the bar for our daughter and allows her more opportunities for graduate school. She was always pushed to reach her full potential. She built positive relationships with her adviser, professors and staff in the education department that she hopes to stay in contact with for life.
Her professors truly cared about her success. They knew what she was capable of and they did not let her settle for anything less. These professors were so knowledgeable and had years of experience themselves. We truly felt the School of Education faculty and staff were her family when she was at school and we could not be more thankful. We were blessed to have found such a great program and we are excited to see what the future brings. Go Bonas!
Thank you for all you have done,
Jim and Donna Bellucco
