The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) at St. Bonaventure will host its first Tutor Appreciation Day on Tuesday, April 15.
As part of this celebration, tutees will write thank you notes to their tutors throughout the week, thanking them for their dedication to academic-related assistance.
Gina Larrabee, office manager for the Teaching and Learning Center, created the idea to show how much St. Bonaventure students appreciate their tutors.
“Our main focus is to celebrate and show appreciation for our fine tutors as well as wanting other St. Bonaventure students to know we have top students as tutors,” Larrabee said.
The following tutors will be honored: Steven Aprilano, Erin Ballou, Arielle Balthazard, Sebastian Bellm, Simone Bernstein, Tamalyn Brown-Penders, Leah Brownstein, Puja Chabra, Joseph Cimmino, Morgan Clelland, Megan Cross, Kelly Delaney, Samantha DiBenedetto, Whitney Dougherty, Carley Doyle, Elliot Fanshel, Chloe Farmer, Amy Farrell, Connor Flanagan, James Gilfert, Catalina Gregg, Alex Gu, Sarah Hanno, Nicholas Hillman, Patrick Hogan, Thomas Hura, Brett Keegan, Dan Kerns, Sara Klinkbeil, Al Lore, and Renjith Maracheril.
And also, Ryan McDonough, Shannon McGlew, Hannah McGrath, Trenton McPherson, Melissa Misenheimer, Sydney Neubauer, Rachel Noone, Timothy Parks, Alexandra Perl, Taylor Phillips, Jonathan Pierce, Elizabeth Reichert, Rene Sandroni, Amit Sanyal, Ram Seeni, Ami Shah, Matt Socci, Christina Stankewicz, Emily Steves, Jessica Ungaro, Hannah Vail, Brianna Walsh, Andrew Wartella, Kady Weisner and Alicia Worthylake.
Larrabee said she plans to create a garden out of the thank you notes created by the tutees at the TLC.
“We plan to have the messages on colored paper in shapes of flowers,” Larrabee said. “The arrangement of flowers will resemble a garden, which will be displayed on tri-fold boards in the TLC.”
Tutor Appreciation Day will begin a four-part series of events offered by the TLC.
Throughout the week of April 15, tutors will collect their tutee’s thank you notes from the Tutor Garden and receive a Tutor Swag Bag of treats created by the center’s staff for each tutor.
On Tuesday, April 15, the TLC will host a presentation titled “The Good, The Bad, The Bonaventure: Surviving Your Junior and Senior Years.” The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hall of Fame room in the Reilly Center. The presentation will include a panel of six juniors and seniors speaking about their experiences at St. Bonaventure.
“The purpose of the event is for freshmen and sophomores to hear advice from upperclassmen about what they would do all over again, and what they wouldn’t do if they could go back in time,” said Jean Trevarton Ehman, director of the Teaching and Learning Center.
The TLC will also host an outdoor event titled “Study in the Sun” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the courtyard of Robinson Hall and Falconio Hall. There will be table clusters hosted by TLC tutors representing biology, chemistry, journalism, education, psychology and study skills.
On Wednesday, April 30, the TLC will host a movie night featuring “Akeelah and the Bee” at 7:15 p.m. at the center (Doyle 26). Free popcorn and beverages will be served to students.
