ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The SBU Theater will be holding open auditions from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, and from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, for roles in the fall production of Kathryn M. Coughlin’s play “More Than Before.”
The auditions are open to all members of the university community, and actor sides are available outside Butler room 2A. The play consists of four characters, and all roles are open. After the roles are filled, rehearsal will take place from Aug. 27-Sept. 27, and the performance will run from Sept. 28-30. Production work for the play can also be taken for credit, and there will be additional details at the auditions.
According to Dr. Ed. Simone, professor of theater and director of the theater program, SBU Theater is excited to be performing Coughlin’s play.
“‘More than Before’ is a beautiful play about loss, family, growing and love,” Simone wrote in an email. “It’s written by a young playwright just coming into her own in professional theater. We’re so pleased to be able to present it.”
The 2012-13 season will mark SBU Theater’s 10th anniversary, and Simone said it is a thrilling time for the theater program.
“Ten years of SBU Theater, supported by the students, faculty, administration, staff and people of Olean and the surrounding communities, has given hundreds of people every year the chance to see classic and contemporary plays,” Simone said. “It’s an honor to be part of it. And we’re doing three faculty-directed shows — instead of our usual two — and an exhibition in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts to celebrate.”
