Oct 21, 2013 |

Ibrahim Zabad, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science at St. Bonaventure University, and Helma de Vries-Jordan, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, will discuss the state of affairs in Syria in an upcoming panel discussion.

The program, “Crisis in Syria: Beyond Chemical Weapons,” will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in the amphitheater of the William F. Walsh Science Center at St. Bonaventure. Zabad will contribute information from his research geared toward “Dispelling Myths in the Syrian Civil War,” while de Vries-Jordan will focus her discussion around “The Syrian Refugee Crisis and the Limited Response of the International Community.”

Zabad received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Davis in 2011. His research interests include the fate of minorities in Middle East revolutions, the social and political consequences of defeats in wars, and political violence.

De Vries-Jordan received her Ph.D. in political science from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2007. Her research interests include transnational social movements, global protests, activism concerning peace, global justice, human rights, LGBT rights, comparative political behavior, globalization, internationalization, Europeanization, and international communication.

The program is sponsored by St. Bonaventure’s Clare College, the Department of Political Science, and the International Studies Program.
