UNIVERSIDAD DE BELGRANO
Buenos Aires, the sprawling capital of Argentina, is known as the Paris of South America. With a population of roughly 13 million, the city contains 46 districts, each with a distinctive flavor: bustling downtown, an area of historic buildings, government offices, commerce, restaurants, shops, theaters and cinemas; San Telmo, with its antique shops, flea markets and tango bars; La Boca, an Italian neighborhood full of brigthly painted houses and cantinas; Belgrano, the refined district of education; with its wide boulevards and outdoor cafes. Cosmopolitan Buenos Aries is one of the great cities in the world.
The Universidad de Belgrano is located in one of the most relaxing areas of metropolitan Buenos Aries. Belgrano is only a few minutes from downtown where late-night life, good conversation over long, lingering dinners or at sidewalk cafes can be enjoyed. The Universidad de Belgrano is a 40-year-old private institution with a strong reputation as an educational and international institution. Its solid tradition in higher education guarantees the quality of Spanish courses, which are taught by native teachers specially trained as second lanugage instructors. Intensive practice in the classroom and the language lab, supported by abundant authentic materials as teaching aids, guarantee excellent results for students of Spanish.
Academic Program Highlights
Semester programs: The semester programs consist of a four-week intensive Spanish session followed by semester long courses taught in Spanish or English for international students or direct enrollment courses at Universidad de Belgrano. The program in English provides students with a choice of five courses taught in English, plus a Spanish lanugage course. Advanced Spanish speakers may take direct enrollment courses from Universidad de Belgrano in many other faculties. Students earn approximately 27 quarter credits/18 semester credits.
Fall Quarter: The fall quarter program consists of a 14-week semi-intensive Spanish language course for international students, taught from beginning to advanced levels. Students earn 21 quarter credits/14 semester credits.
Spring Semester Iintensive Language Program: The Spring Semester Intensive Language Program consists of two four-week and one eight-week intensive Spanish language sessions, taught from the beginning to advanced levels. Students earn 32 quarter credits/21 semester credits.
Student Life
Students may opt to live in homestays arranged by the program or can find their own accommodations. Students placed in homestays have their own room and are provided with breakfast and dinner. Homestays are located in suburbs convenient to the university.
The program coordinator will plan activities for participants each month such as trips to the Teatro Colon, La Boca district, markets and other local sites of interest. Group gatherings are also arranged througout the program. Field trips may be arranged by program faculty. Students also have free access to a large sports complex. An International Club (Club del Exterior) brings together international students with Universidad de Belgrano students who have returned from studying abroad. This will also give students the opportunity to participate in social activities. Free tango lessons, an excellent acting and performing school, and an active choir are included among these activities.
