This course is the second of a three-course sequence in the diagnosis and teaching of learners with literacy difficulties. This course is designed to provide prospective literacy teachers with many strategies for teaching early childhood and childhood learners as individuals and in small groups. The course will include instruction in early literacy strategies, word recognition, vocabulary development and comprehension. The focus of the course will be in using the specific literacy strengths of students to develop their weaknesses. The course also includes a 20 hour in-school practicum placement where students work with a certified literacy teacher.
