A study of the major critical statements from Plato to the New Critics, modern critical movements, and basic approaches to criticism. Strategies for incorporating critical approaches into student writing and developing critical thinking skills in more cultural, political, and aesthetic modes will be emphasized. Appropriate literary works will be selected to illustrate such studies. (Criticism/Theory)
