St. Bonaventure's Summer Study in Italy Program
This is a five and a half-week program (the last week in May through June) that offers six credit hours* from among a large selection of courses in the following areas: Clare College courses, business, education, Italian language, fine arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Centered in Perugia ("the green heart of Italy"), Summer Study in Italy is associated with the Umbra Institute. The program includes excursions to places such as Assisi, Florence, and Rome and immersion in university and Italian daily life. *Seven credits for those who take Clare 102, a course with a lab.

Location
Perugia is the center of the region of Umbria. It is 100 miles north of Rome and 80 miles south of Florence, only 20 miles from Assisi, and close to some of the best-known hill towns in Italy including Siena, Gubbio, Orvieto, and Spoleto.
Perugia's population is about 100,000, large enough to offer an interesting and varied cultural experience for college students and small enough for the students to become comfortable in its environs during a five and a half week stay. With its narrow, winding streets, terrra cotta-roofed stone houses and palazzi, and large piazzas dominated by churches and other public buildings, Perugia has retained a medieval appearance while adding modern amenities.
The Universita di Perugia, the Universita per Stranieri (for international students), and the Umbra Institute provide rich and lively cultural experiences including museum exhibits, concerts, and festivals in addition to plentiful academic offerings.

Several weekend excursions to places such as Rome, Florence, and Assisi are arranged to broaden the cultural experiences of the students.
