Pope Francis prays for persecuted Muslims, calls for bridges not walls
On Wednesday, Feb. 8, marking the Catholic Church’s International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking, Pope Francis asked the thousands gathered in Rome for his weekly audience to remember the Rohingya Muslim minority being persecuted in Myanmar. “They are driven out of Myanmar, going from one place to another because they’re not wanted. They’re good people, peaceful! They aren’t Christians, they’re good [people]. They’re brothers and sisters of ours.”
U.S. Franciscans Speak Out on Immigration Ban
Feb. 1, 2017: The leadership of the U.S. Franciscans issued a statement against the president's travel ban. They said: "The recent actions of President Donald J. Trump regarding the treatment of immigrants and refugees entering our country have been troubling to a wide-ranging group of citizens across the United States, As Franciscans, we are morally outraged by and resolutely denounce the January 27, 2017, executive order addressing the U.S. immigrant and refugee admission program.
