St. Bonaventure University Athletics Director Steve Watson today announced personnel changes that stem from the University’s strategic plan for intercollegiate athletics – Your Teams: Our Extraordinary Future.
“As we looked at the total makeup of the department, we realized we needed to make some changes so that position titles accurately reflect the duties of our staff,” said Watson. “These modifications allow us to accomplish that goal and, consistent with the University’s position on raises in this fiscal year, no salary adjustments were made in association with these changes.”
Barbara Questa, who has been a member of the athletics administrative staff since 1992, has been promoted to Deputy Athletics Director. In that role, she will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department. Questa has direct supervision of five sports programs as well as business and finance. She is the departmental liaison to several university offices and serves on a number of internal committees including the Board of Trustees’ Committee on Athletics. Questa has served as Interim Director of Athletics three times, most recently in 2012.
Darian Westerfield joins the St. Bonaventure staff as Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations. Westerfield is responsible for all of the department’s revenue-generating areas including capital projects, the Bonnies Athletic Fund, ticket sales, corporate sales, and licensing. He will also oversee communications and marketing.
Westerfield comes to St. Bonaventure after spending the past two years as Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs at Morehead State University in Kentucky. Westerfield is a 1997 graduate of Lindenwood (Mo.) University and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Missouri State. He also has worked in athletics at Indiana State, Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Memphis and Missouri.
As part of the department’s focus on external communications, Steve Mest has moved into the role of Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications. He will manage all public and media relations while supporting fundraising and sales communications, donor stewardship, branding and licensing. Mest has been a member of the athletics staff since 1998.
“We are excited about the changes and additions to our staff,” Watson said. “Positioning ourselves to maximize revenue opportunities is a key component of our Athletics Strategic Plan, and we are now better equipped to do that.”
Three other staff members have been promoted and have new titles.
Darryn Fiske has been elevated from Strength and Conditioning Coach to Director of Strength and Conditioning. A 15-year veteran of the St. Bonaventure staff, Fiske works with all 14 of the Bonnies’ intercollegiate teams.
Christopher Hobler has been promoted to Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer. He oversees two full-time and one part-time athletic training staff members and is responsible for the overall health of the Bonnies’ 245 student-athletes. Hobler joined the St. Bonaventure staff in the summer of 2011.
Margaret Adamitis, who is responsible for all financial transactions for the department, has been promoted from Business Manager to Director of Athletics Business and Finance. Adamitis has been a member of the athletics staff since 2007 and previously worked in St. Bonaventure’s business office for five years.
Other staff members who have joined the Bonnies’ team over the past two months are: Corey Dieteman, digital media specialist; Eddie Gray, volunteer assistant baseball coach; David Hill, assistant ticket office manager; Brian Moretti, assistant sports information director; Josh Parmenter, assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach; Jason Radwan, assistant softball coach; B.J. Salerno, strength and conditioning assistant and assistant baseball coach, and Bill Williams, men’s and women’s diving coach.
