Construction of the William F. Walsh Science Center and the renovation of De La Roche Hall were made possible by some $9.5 million in government grants -- $8.1 million from NASA and $1.4 million from HUD.
A technical officer from NASA's Facilities Division who visited the construction site in September of 2007 found it noteworthy that the project's cost growth due to change orders was "a mere 2.8 percent," that the site was "remarkably free of debris" and that the "safety culture displayed was excellent."
In his summary, the inspector noted: "St. Bonaventure is applying the NASA grant funding for the intended purpose. Project progress is congruent with funding drawdown. Project quality is excellent. These factors clearly indicate that the St. Bonaventure staff is very knowledgeable about their work and conscientious in how it is executed. The subject grant is being handled in outstanding fashion."
