Sustainability at SBU: Building "Right Relationships"
As a campus community, we joyfully embrace the challenge to live in "right relationship" with the environment, with one another and the surrounding communities. Following the spirit of Francis of Assisi, we are committed to:
- Encouraging all constituents by teaching and through example, to care for and commit to building a more sustainable environment
- Raising the consciousness of our constituents with regard to the fragility of the environment and all beings
- Celebrating the gift, goodness and beauty of all creation.

Sustainability initiatives
► New campus construction: St. Bonaventure's William F. Walsh Science Center and the Friedsam Memorial Library's Rare Books addition use underground water for cooling systems, reducing the release of carbon dioxide.
► Townhouse 23 has gone GREEN:
In fall 2010, Townhouse 23 on the east side of campus was dedicated as a "green building." Students who chose to live in the 8-apartment complex work toward sustainable living by composting, recycling and monitoring and limiting their energy use. Read news release
► Eco-Fest Celebrates Sustainability:
This annual campuswide event includes talks on sustainable living and a host of other events to raise awareness of Earth issues. This year's event runs from April 11-16. Read about last year's event.
