Quick Center for The Arts rededicates its permanent collection
|
Fr. Xavier Seubert, O.F.M., guardian of the Franciscan Friary at St. Bonaventure, blesses a crucifix above a gallery presently exhibiting part of the university's permanent collection. The cross survived the devastating campus fire of 1930. After the fire, then St. Bonaventure president Fr. Thomas Plassmann went to New York City to raise money to rebuild, beginning a relationship with the Friedsam Foundation, named for philanthropist and art collector Col. Michael Friedsam. The foundation funded construction of a new library and later donated many pieces of art to the university, beginning the cycle of collecting that today earns The Quick Center for the Arts its reputation as a renowned art facility.
