St. Bonaventure's Gaudete (gow-DAY-tay) Medal honors business and community leaders who exemplify, in their professional and personal lives, the spirit of joy and service expressed through the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi.
Gaudete, which means "Rejoice"" in Latin, is a word ofter reserved for
the hallowed walls of a church or a sacred time of worship.
St. Francis found joy in simple things and retained his rejoicing spirit in spite of the suffering and pain in his life.
The medal recipients possess joy and hope, a positive outlook on life, a sincerely compassionate spirit and a desire to serve humankind. The individuals are judged by the deeds they perform, or practices which inspire, encourage, enhance, enlighten and benefit others.
