In all degree programs, the University requires students to complete the General Education requirements. Transfer students will be granted course credits as follows for coursework taken prior to matriculation.

• Required Courses
  • BONA 101. Introduction to St. Bonaventure: waived for transfer students.
  • ENG 101. Writing I and ENG 102. Writing II: two appropriate 3-credit introductory writing courses at least at the 100 level.
  • FS/THEO 101. The Way of Francis and Clare: All students who transferred to St. Bonaventure University must take FS/THEO 101, unless they transfer an equivalent course from a Franciscan Institution.
  • PHIL 104. Introduction to Ethics: An appropriate 3-credit course with content reflective of ethics.
• Distribution Lists
  • Franciscan Studies/Theology: an appropriate 3-credit theology or religious studies course.
  • Historical Studies: an appropriate 3-credit world, European, or American history course.
  • Literature and the Visual and Performing Arts: an appropriate 3-credit art, music, theater, or literature course.
  • Natural science with lab an appropriate 4-credit science lab course.
  • Philosophy: an appropriate 3-credit philosophy course.
  • Quantitative Literacy: an appropriate 3-credit mathematics course.
  • Social Science: an appropriate 3-credit psychology, sociology, political science, or economics course.
• Coded Courses
  • Required course with a “D” for Diversity: an appropriate 3 credit course with content reflective of a multi-cultural perspective.
  • Intensive Writing (W): an appropriate 3 credit course that fulfills the learning objectives related to intensive writing.

Students who have earned an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree

Students who have earned an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree will be considered to have satisfied the following requirements of the General Education Curriculum.

Students with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree must take FS/THEO 101. The Way of Francis and Clare, unless they transfer an equivalent course from a Franciscan Institution.

Students who have earned an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree must demonstrate that their course work has fulfilled the following graduation requirements if they want to be exempted from these requirements:

• PHIL 104. Introduction to Ethics: Did the student take an appropriate 3-credit course with content reflective of ethics?
• Diversity (D): Did the student take an appropriate 3-credit course with content reflective of a multi-cultural perspective?
• Intensive Writing (W): Did the student take an appropriate 3-credit course that fulfills the learning objectives related to intensive writing?
