The St. Bonaventure University wireless network is available in all academic buildings, residence halls, townhouses, and administrative buildings (Reilly Center, Hopkins Hall, etc.).

How do I access the SBU wireless network?

To access the wireless network students will need to log in using their SBU username and password. To log in, simply open a web browser and navigate to any page. When prompted, enter your username and password and click Submit. Employees will not need to log in if using a University supplied laptop.

Will I be able to use a personal wireless router?

No, the only wireless signal that will work on campus will be the SBU wireless network.

Is the wireless network secure?

Yes, in three ways. First, the new wireless network ensures that only SBU members can access the wireless network. Second, all wireless communications on employee computers is encrypted, thus allowing more secure applications to be accessed over the wireless. Finally, no communication between wireless computers is allowed, thus ensuring that no viruses can spread via the wireless network.

Should I still use my wired connection?

Wireless provides convenience and freedom of movement. Your wired connection is faster than the wireless connection. In general, if you are near a wired connection you should always use it first. Wireless is useful when no wired connection is readily available.

Please feel free to contact the Helpdesk 375-7600 with any questions or concerns. We will continue to update the campus as this project progresses.
