Alicia Millane Multiples Logo

The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University is honored to present the first solo exhibition of photographer Alicia Millane, featuring selections taken from her "Multiples" series. Taken in a composed setting and digitally altered by the artist, each piece features the same subject throughout the image in multiple poses. The overall effect captures glimpses of the subject's daily life and personality and presents these instances in a singular narrative that would otherwise never be viewed together.

As stated by the artist: "My Multiples series started as a final project during my last semester of college, and I have continued to build on it as I get new ideas and meet new people. I have come to love this series because of the creativity and spontaneity to which it lends itself. Much like a puzzle without a single solution, I never know from the start what the end product will be. The project evolves from the shooting stage to the editing phase, the photos ultimately coming together in a final image to bring a story to life."

“In his quiet, unobtrusive manner, Dr. Hanley reflects the very culture of learning which he strives to endow. Like Lorenzo de Medici, under whom the Italian Renaissance reached its apogee, Dr. Hanley has spent tremendous sums out of his own pocket on art and books. It is a reverence for learning that is rare and wonderful.”
- Fr. Irenaeus Herscher, Friedsam Library

Donating over two hundred works of art to the St. Bonaventure University Permanent Art Collection, as well as tens of thousands of books to Friedsam Library’s collection, Thomas Edward Hanley became a common face on the St. Bonaventure campus during the days of his benefaction from 1942 until his death in 1969.

St. Bonaventure University and the University of Pittsburgh Bradford have collaborated on dual exhibitions featuring the collections of T. Edward Hanley. Each exhibition will include works collected by Hanley including artwork, books and letters that are now housed in the Universities’ archives.

residence of Captain Phillips

This exhibition displays prints on loan from Fordham University taken from Jacques Milbert’s Picturesque Itinerary of the Hudson River and Surrounding Parts of North America, 1828.

In 1815, Jacques Milbert traveled to the United States in order to explore and record information on its north eastern typography, flora, fauna, and social history. With his travels being supported by the Museum of Natural History in Paris, Milbert took seven years to complete his study of the American north-east, sending 8,000 natural history specimens to France and constructing a series of highly detailed sketches of the areas which he traveled. Upon his return to France, Milbert’s sketches were transformed into prints and bound as a volume forming, at that time, one of the most comprehensive and accurate depictions of the north-eastern United States.

Included in the exhibition are statues created by 19th century American sculpture John Rogers. Depicting literary scenes and images of early Americana, Roger Groups, mass-produced, plaster cast genre scenes, became popular in Victorian America and graced the parlors of many middle-class families.

Quick Center for the Arts from 2003 - 2007, Marino now works in the Psychology Department at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio after having served as curator of the University’s visual resources from 2010 to January of this year. As a fiber artist, Marino uses a collage method of appliqué, combining commercial fabrics and hand quilting techniques to construct her images. Marino combines her Art History background with her extensive collection of commercially printed fabrics to create inspired works that pay homage to artists like Sandro Botticelli, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Jasper Johns, Mark Rothko and Jim Dine.
